Dev Log #1 - Learning by teaching and learning by writing
Why do we enjoy "Day in the life of..." videos on TikTok so much?
Is it because we see what someone else's day looks like?
Is it because we get a glimpse into their world?
Maybe it's because we realise that other people have the same problems we do.
And their day-to-day isn't perfect.
The "Day in the life of..." videos on TikTok are authentic and they teach you how others solve problems that maybe you share with them.
Now this is all obvious! You don't have to be a genius to figure this out.
The interesting part here is the creators who stick to a routine and share a slice of their world with us.
You learn a lot of lessons in your life everyday. You learn them the hard way and the easy way.
But you learn them.
The people who make these videos are just sharing what their day looks like. And the lessons that they learn along da wey.
And we enjoy watching them because we learn something new in an authentic way.
Maybe my decision to not pursue a job related to my Economics degree would have been less daunting if I was reading the posts written by someone who was on a similar journey as me.
Or maybe my move into tech and software development would have been easier if I used the tips and tricks I learned from someone who had taken similar footsteps.
There are a lot of strong voices on Linkedin who write about tech and software development nowadays.
People like @Ryan Peterman and @John Hu and @Steve Huynh.
These people are super inspiring and they share a slice of their life and what they learn with us. Which means they're learning by teaching and learning by writing.
So hi! My name is Santiago. I'm a software engineer and a team lead at a tech company in Brisbane, Australia.
Can I share some of the things I learn about tech and software development with you?
I'm going to write these dev logs a handful of times a month sharing some key lessons and interesting things I learn along the way.
