Sunday 5 - Shocking the body, engineering managers and getting zucked
Hi there!
Great to share another sunday with you!
It's been a pretty interesting week.
🏃♂️ Cardio Surprises
This morning I shocked my body by running and finishing a 10km walk/run (Bridge to Brisbane) with my partner. We were both surprised at our cardio fitness. We honestly thought we were a lot worse.
But we ended up only walking 3.5-4kms and we ran the rest of the time. With no running training at all.
It seems like going to the gym and being active splashes over into general fitness so that when you do random things like go for a big run, you don't struggle as much.
Also they had water, DJs, bands and even opera singers every few kms. It was quite fun. Highly recommend it!
🤔 Quotes I'm thinking about
“People in their 30s know where the world is going because they’re going to do it. I’m in my 80s so I have no idea.”—Daniel Kahneman

💻 Interesting articles form the world of tech
I came across this article about different flavours of engineering managers by Pat Kua.
Being in the world of tech, you often wonder what the next steps in the career of Software Engineer are.
It seems like the choices are to dig deeper into technical matters or go into management. Pat explains what the different types of engineering managers are and how they operate.
👽 The Zuck on the Joe Rogan Podcast
Mark Zuckerberg made an appearance on the Joe Rogan Podcast. To be frank, I thought he was very poised and well spoken.
You can't help but respect someone who was able to create such a large tech business such as Meta.
He also seems to be all in on AR/VR. Take that information as you will.
😔 Sad Heroku news
This marks the end of an era. An era that I was part of.
The very first few app I built were all deployed to heroku. There was something magical about seeing your code run in a production environment and in a url you could share with friends and family.
As sad as it is, a work colleague suggested: https://railway.app/
He says it's a lot better than heroku ever was haha.
That's it for this week!
If you liked this post, maybe try sharing it with a friend or colleague. You might get extra lucky this week if you do ;)
